"Oh, we do too have hearts - don't be mad..."
Name: Demyx
Nicknames: Number Nine (or just 'Nine'), Melodious Nocturne, Dem, Idiot
Age: Unknown
Gender: Male
Game: Kingdom Hearts II & 358/2 Days
Personality: While he does play the part of the fool rather well, Demyx is actually a lot cleverer than he makes out. As a 'Nobody' he hasn't got a heart, meaning that he should be incapable of human emotions such as fear, anxiety and lack of self-esteem. But he claims he has. Whether you believe that or not is up to you - but there is one thing certain about Demyx, and that's his ineffable laziness. Laid-back - carefree - disguise this however you like: he's still the laziest of Organization XIII.
It's clear that Demyx would rather have some 'me' time than fight, or actually do anything of worth. He enjoys sitting back and playing his Sitar, or liberally styling his hair, or remarking about how nice it is to have silence for five minutes.
As a person he's not the most reliable and often selfish. If he feels as though he can kick back and make you do all the work - he won't hesitate to do so. Loyalty isn't his strongest suit, he just tends to go along with things that he feels may eventually benefit him. But on the positive side; he's quirky and somewhat upbeat. It's a way of subduing what he misses about being human.
History: A Nobody isn't really supposed to exist...
But when we give into the darkness of our hearts, that darkness manifests into an instinctual being called a Heartless. The empty shell and soul left behind can then act on a will of its own - a Nobody. Most lesser Nobodies take a simple form, but when it is born from one who once had a strong heart... they can walk and talk and 'Be' just as anyone else.
But they're all missing one important thing: a heart of their own.
Before Demyx was 'born', he was an ordinary eighteen-year-old lad with extraordinary talent. Music was at the heart of everything that he did, and he didn't have time for anything else. He was a performer and lived for the stage; but no matter how many hours he devoted to playing the guitar, he couldn't quite get to where he wanted to be. At some point during his dwindling career; human-Demyx was coerced by a scientist named Xehanort and became one of his experiments. By forcibly removing his heart, the human died but the heartless thrived. Then what was left: an empty shell, a Nobody.
Demyx, alongside eleven others and the head honcho Xemnas, was part of a group of Nobodies called Organization XIII. The Organization's primary goal was to reclaim their hearts and make themselves whole again: the only way to do this was to collect enough hearts to form Kingdom Hearts.
Only a Keyblade wielder can release and capture hearts by destroying Heartless, so when Roxas became the thirteenth member of their group; there was a new hope for all of them. Demyx (begrudgingly) worked alongside Roxas and the others on the Organization's missions, although he often complained about having to strain himself through a long battle - feeling as though there were better members suited for the job. He preferred collecting intelligence from recon missions than actually having to fight, plus he had a better time visiting other worlds than staying at the castle all the time.
Demyx secretly concealed his delight when five of his 'noisy co-workers' were terminated for being traitors. He hated that witch Larxene; thought Lexaeus, Zexion and Vexen were about as amusing as drying paint and Marluxia, well. Just another loudmouth really. They were better now that eight remained.
Although he still had Saix and Axel to deal with...
When Roxas was absorbed by Sora and he became whole again, the Organization had lost their most important member. Demyx was ordered to find Sora in the Underworld, and coax Roxas out from within him by using "aggression to liberate his true disposition". Unsuccessful, Demyx returned to Castle Oblivion and was threatened with termination for his incompetence. Not wanting to experience the void quite yet; he is granted one final opportunity to stop Sora when he arrives at Hollow Bastion.
Demyx explicitly calls Sora a 'traitor', although he is referring to Roxas and his transgression. Putting his full spirit into the fight this time, he battles Sora but is finally defeated. The concept of mortal peril had always frightened him; so he can't help but scream out in agony as he fades from existence.
Supposedly, time passes. But what it feels like to Demyx is a stretch of blackness - ending in light, as he wakes and finds himself in Terre.
"You look like you could use some help, kupo."
Summons/Abilities: Demyx commands the element of water using a rather unusual weapon - a sitar. By strumming a few chords he can manipulate its shape into whatever he likes: even replica forms of himself that can harm a target at a relatively sober degree. The water he commands has added magical properties that can harm you in more ways than just getting your clothes wet: the accelerated pressure of the water can project the target high into the air, meaning the only way back is to the ground. He can use the water as a projectile or a platform to charge and travel. Or, you know, if he's feeling particularly lazy he could probably pluck a few strings and wash his hair. It wouldn't surprise anyone if he used his abilities for frivolous means.
As a high-ranking Nobody, Demyx also controls a group of lesser Nobodies called 'Dancers'. May sound pleasant, but their hands are knives and they'll throw you around murderously when they want to dance with you.
